Nate and the Snail

Yesterday Nate met a snail. They became friends and and talked to each other all afternoon. I don’t know much about snails so it could have been trying to escape, but he seemed to be very interested in Nate. The snail would stretch out as far as it could and Nate would burst into giggles because of his big ‘eyes’. It was all adorable and sweet…until dinner time. Once I told Nate he had to come inside, he freaked out. He didn’t want to leave the snail. “If I put him outside, I’ll never see him again,” he said. “I want to stay with him. He’s my friend.” I couldn’t really argue with him. We have a lot of snails in the garden (and a lot of birds that like to eat the snails). How would we ever find our friend Snail Snail (that’s his name you know). So I took a few pictures of the pair together. Nate asked if he could hold the pictures in his bed at night. He’s so sweet and sensative sometimes, it just amazes me.

Nate and Snail

I couldn’t print the pictures before bedtime, but Chris did it from his office and in the morning we showed Nate. He had no recollection of the damn snail. I dealt with the Snail Crisis for about an hour.
